Although the Lamborghini Countach is a legend and its design is timeless, the Italian firm has designed a new model inspired by the supercar born in 1974 to continue, with current technology, a historical legacy.
Resurrecting a mythical past model without people throwing their heads in their heads is a complicated task, but Lamborghini has succeeded. The Lamborghini Countach is our protagonist, a supercar that became an idol of the masses from its launch in 1974 until its production ended in 1990. Many mourned its departure, but in 2022 it will be back with the best of that car and all the technological innovations that have been arriving during these 31 years. Under the name of Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4, will arrive in 2022 and there will only be 112 limited units.
It will be a hybrid that drinks directly from the Lamborghini Sian, thanks to the combination of a longitudinally positioned V12 engine and a small electric motor. Between them they will add 814 hp, thanks to the superlative power of the first (780 hp) and the support of the second (34 hp). It will have permanent all-wheel drive and its performance will be a real scandal: it will go from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds, from 0 to 200 km / h in 8.6 seconds and will have a maximum speed of 355 km / h.
The electric motor is powered by a super capacitor to offer extra power. Thanks to this element, it is capable of tripling its figures without increasing the size of the propellant itself or of the lithium batteries. An interesting technological advance that allows it to be classified as a ‘mild-hybrid’ and receive the ECO label from the DGT. To this we must add that it is the only micro-hybrid on the market that directly connects the electric motor with the wheels.
The secret to achieving such an interesting intergenerational mix is offered by Stephan Winkelmann, President of Lamborghini. From the brand they have not sought to be retrospective, but rather to “pay tribute to this Lamborghini legacy”. To do this, its designers have imagined how this car would have been designed in our time, so that although it drinks from the original, it does not copy elements of the model that lived between the 70s and 90s.
The silhouette of the Lamborghini Countach is reminiscent of the original, thanks to an essential line that runs along the entire profile of the car. It has angles, sharp lines and a wedge shape that revolutionized the design of supercars of the time to the point that today there are still models that use this trait. The front end drinks directly from the Lamborghini Countach Quattrovalvole edition, with powerful lines on the front hood and a rectangular grille, with hexagonal-shaped wheel arches.
Of course, how could it be otherwise, this Lamborghini Countach has one of the most legendary elements of the original model: scissor doors. These were introduced for the first time in this car and since then, all the V12 of the Italian firm have had them. As a precursor to the legacy, the Countach LPI 800-4 could not miss the appointment with this opening system.
All this aesthetic and performance package is complemented by extreme lightness and fantastic torsional rigidity.. This is thanks to a body with carbon fiber panels, which allows it to lower its total mass to 1,585 kg. Carbon fiber is not hidden, as it not only serves as a technical advance: brings a brutal aesthetic sportiness. For this reason, it can be seen in the front splitter, around the windshield or in the rear-view mirrors, as well as in some interior details. It also has other interesting details, such as mobile airvents produced by 3D printing or a photochromic ceiling, which varies its opacity with a button.
The tires are of considerable size: It has twenty inches in front and 21 inches behind, with a “telephone” design, similar to that already used by the Lamborghini Countach of the 80s. They are complemented by carbon ceramic discs and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires. As for the colors, they are divided into two categories: the ‘Heritage’, solids used in the original Countach and the Contemporary, metallic with more current colors such as gray, purple or blue. In total, there are thirty-three different options. What a dilemma, right?
Inside, The Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 wants to be a comfortable and luxurious car. Therefore, it has leather seats with geometric stitching or a specific dashboard. Practically all the design elements were born exclusively for this car. It will be possible to choose interior colors, with four single or two-color configurations and five colors for carpet, ceiling and seams.
Although it is inspired by an eighties car, bet on current technology. They could not miss the touch screen (central 8.4 inches) with Apple Carplay with an exclusive button called Stile, which explains to the owner the design philosophy of the Countach.
