How to Test Belt Tension with a Krikit Gauge Video – Pep Boys

The Dayco Krikit gauge is available at your neighborhood Pep Boys in two sizes. The smaller is for v-belts up to 7/8″ wide with a tension range of 30 to 150 lbs or 14 to 70 kgs. The larger size fits Poly Rib belts with up to 14 ribs and a tension range of 100 to 300 lbs or 45 to 135 kgs. To use the Krikit gauge insert your finger under the rubber strap and onto the pressure pad. Place the gauge on the back of the belt, not the rib side, center across the width of the belt and as close to the center of the belt span. It is critical that the widen area on the bottom of the gauge lay flat on the back of the belt and parallel with the belt edge when performing the tension measurement.

Once the gauge is placed correctly the next step is to press slowly on the pressure pad. The slower you go the better chance you have at stopping immediately after the click. If you push to fast you will overshoot and a faulty reading will occur. Next remove the gauge and read the tension by looking at the point where the top part of the arm crosses the number on the gauge.

The Dayco Krikit gauge is available at your neighborhood Pep Boys Auto or find out more online at http://www.PepBoys.com.
